Well I suppose this is long over due as it's been just over 2 years since my boys Yarsir & Zain have been with OKA.
Where shall I begin, shall I start by telling you how their confidence has grown, or how their fitness levels have improved? or even how their concentration levels and ability to focus have increased?
These are just a few of the many attributes that Karate/OKA along with Shihan Paul Coleman have given Yarsir & Zain.
During the last two years I've sat and watched hours upon hours of the boys lessons with Shihan Paul. People seem to think Karate is all about kicking and punching and shouting, how wrong could they be?
Some lessons have been like a class room environment, talking discussing and learning. While others have been the complete opposite, sparring, huffing and puffing sweating like they've just ran a marathon.
As a parent of three young men (5 - 7 & 11) I can't recommend OKA enough. I've seen how a couple of other local Karate clubs operate and to say it was shocking is an understatement. Out of respect to them and their students I won't go into any more detail.
Looking into the future - most parents would say 'he's going to be black belt by 13' etc etc. To me, belts mean absolutely nothing. I'd be happier if my sons could defend them selves and keep in good physical shape, (fit strong flexible) throughout their youth eventually as adults.
Don't get me wrong, I think belts are a fantastic idea and the higher the grade commands more respect, also it keeps students motivated and gives them targets - which is great.
Who knows where my boys will be in 5 or 10 years time? What I do know is that OKA has given them a great introduction Karate, to which I hope they can continue to learn and the 'Little Acorns can become
Mighty Oak Trees ' (one of Shihans many phrases)

Best Regards
